“Watch to see where God is working and join Him in His work.”
~Dr. Henry Blackaby
Background
- Today Nigeria is the 7th largest nation in the world, by 2050 it is projected to be the 3rd largest
- There are 251 least-reached people groups living in Nigeria
- The Gotel Mountains cover eastern Nigeria and extend into western Cameroon
- There are 10 least-reached people groups living in the Gotel region
In the early 2000’s Converge Worldwide saw the need to address the HIV/AIDS pandemic sweeping the Country of Nigeria. In 2004 Art and Dorothy Helwig moved to Nigeria to begin a work there. James 1:27 was their guiding verse: Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
For 10 years they worked in the HIV/AIDS community addressing it as a moral issue as well as a medical issue. When the Helwigs retired in 2014 Dan & Tina Gibbs joined the ministry. With Dan’s background in business management and Tina’s in Early Childhood education they have worked to expand the ministry. Today the ministry has a Hospital; including operating rooms, a full Lab, and Pharmacy. There are ministries for Discipleship, Leader development, Women, Children and a Technical School. You can read more about these on the Programs page.
Dr. Henry Blackaby says that we should “watch to see where God is working and join Him in His work.”
William Carey says “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.”
God is certainly working in Nigeria and we are expecting him to do many more great things!
